Richard’s plans for summer vacation
For summer vacation, my plans are still being created. I will definitely visit my wife’s family for a traditional Japanese meal for Obon and do a day trip or two somewhere, probably back to Kyoto. The rest of my time might include video editing, studying Japanese, watching Netflix, gym training and relaxing in air-con eating ice cream😊
What would you normally do in your home country?
Normally in Australia, my summer vacation would include picnics, barbeques in the park or at the beach. Snorkeling, fishing, camping or enjoying food and drinks at friends’ house or the local park.
How does Japanese summer vacation differ to your home country?
Australian summer vacation is unique compared to Japan in that it coincides with Christmas and New Years. Being the longest holiday period for the year (sometimes 3 weeks long) as many business don’t open up until mid January, it includes lots of time with family decorating the Christmas tree, going to sing Christmas carols and driving/walking down the streetlight home decorations (it’s a challenge to be awarded the most stunning lights/decorations each year). New Year’s includes fireworks and a time for setting New Year’s Resolution’s ( Join a gym etc.) The heat is a dry kind and very comfortable with no humidity, although I would usually go swimming/snorkeling. My home state of WA was again awarded the best beaches on earth for 2024 with dolphins. Palm Cove Beach in Australia was awarded the number one best, beating Hawaii.
