“Hi I’m Andy! Science shows that we learn best when we’re havingfun and relaxed. I always do my best to keep lessons fun and enjoyable. My advise is to find what you love, and practice doing it in English!”
<①日本に来たきっかけは?>
“I grew up in a very small town in the American countryside. I first became interested in travelling around because of my Spanish teacher. He had been to Spain, basically doing what I’m doing now. He told us stories about living and teaching in Spain, and I decided I wanted to do that too. I wanted to see the world outside my small town.”
<②お休みの日はどう過ごす?>
“I recently moved to Kobe from Osaka, I’ve been spending days off unpacking boxes and going to the ward office. When I have free time, I enjoy reading, especially mystery and fantasy novels, and American comics. I also like travelling around Japan a bit and hiking and taking pictures of my travels. I am interested in old Japanese castles. There are said to be 12 ancient castles in Japan, and I have been to 6 of them so far. I am hoping to visit Matsumoto castle this year.”
<③故郷について恋しいことは何?>
“My home town is a very small town called Gallipolis, which is situated on the Ohio river in a corner of southeast Ohio, bordering West Virginia. It is a small town of less than 4000 people. The thing I miss most, aside of my family, of course, is the food! Hot dogs, corn chips, catfish, roast-beef sandwiches, mac-and-cheese, American seafood… the list goes on and on. My wife and I visited Ohio for a month last year, and one of our biggest concern was getting the food we wanted to try before we came back.”
<④Andyの教師としての強みは?>
“I have a strong background in teaching, with a degree in English and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification from my university. I love teaching and especially teaching English. My favorite point to study about English is etymology, or the history of where words came from. English is a “romance” language, it has a lot of Latin and Greek mixed in. Knowing a little Latin can go a long way to helping you recognize new words in English.”
(日本語)「英語を教える」ということに関して専門的な知識があります。大学で英語の学位を取得し、TESOL(Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)の資格も取得しました。教えること、特に英語を教えることが大好きです!英語の勉強で一番好きなのは語源、つまり言葉がどこから来たのかという歴史です。英語は「ロマンス」言語で、ラテン語やギリシャ語がたくさん混ざっています。ラテン語を少し知っていると、英語の新しい単語を認識するのに役立ちます。
