Hello, it’s Daniel again! It’s finally started to get cold here in Osaka, so I decided to write about Christmas. Let’s get into it!
Christmas in America is quite different from Christmas in Japan. One of the biggest differences is the food. While fried chicken is a popular Christmas food in Japan, almost no one would think of that as Christmas food in America. We prefer to eat turkey, beef or ham. In my family, we would always make a lot of soups and stews for Christmas day.
Another difference is the people we spend it with. Christmas seems to be a couples’ holiday in Japan. In America, it is one of the most important holidays to spend with family. We always visited my grandparents’ house on Christmas Day. I had so much fun hanging out with my aunts, uncles and cousins.
Lastly, Christmas cake is very popular here, while we prefer to eat Christmas cookies. We would always leave out a plate of Christmas cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve. I hope you get the chance to experience an American Christmas!
