今回は毎週水曜日と木曜日に茨木校に来てくれるKatherine先生からみなさまへメッセージとプチレッスンが届いておりますのでご紹介します(^^)/
Hello! My name is Katherine. I’m an instructor at the Ibaraki Branch. I’m from… well, I was born in South Korea. I was adopted when I was two and grew up in the USA (Michigan is very beautiful). My current home is in Japan (Osaka <3). I know, it’s very complicated. I’m from everywhere. I love animals! I used to volunteer at an animal shelter in Osaka. It had the cutest puppies and kitties! Korea has a phrase “Fighting” which is similar to Japan’s “Fight-oh!” and roughly translates to “do your best” in English. If you want to sound like a native when showing someone support, try the phrases “You got this!” or “Got your back!” with your friend. The raised fist is optional. Also, in the opposite situation, “Girl, halp” (no, that’s not a typo) is a popular phrase when you’re struggling with a task. For example, if you borrowed too many books from the library, can’t carry them all in your arms and are starting to drop some, you can shout at your friend, “girl, halp!” Michigan also has some special slang words. “The Bridge” is the nickname for the Mackinac Bridge. Can you guess the pronunciation? It’s Mac (like in Big Mac) – i (like in i-i-mitt) – naw (like in aw-aw-awesome). That’s right! It rhymes with the word “paw.” Mackinac Bridge connects the Upper (the one that looks like a rabbit) and Lower (the one that looks like a mitten) Peninsulas. “Cherry Capital” is another word. Can you guess the meaning? It’s the nickname for Traverse City. This place is known for its yearly Cherry Festival. Cherry ice cream, cherry sauce, cherry pie — the cherries there are delicious!
