Hi, everybody! My name is Thomas Lipschultz, but please call me Tom. I’m from the United States of America Specifically, I’m from the state of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania isn’t very well-known in Japan, but in America, it’s quite famous: it was one of the first states, and was very important in the founding of the country back in the 1700s. For me, however, it will always be most famous for its delicious soft pretzels and a sugary soda called “birch beer“!
I’ve been interested in Japan since I was a child, because I watched a lot of anime and played a lot of Japanese video games on my Nintendo systems. When I went to college, I studied Japanese there, and I first visited Japan through a school exchange program in the June, 2000. My college has a sister school in Miyagi, Tohoku Gakuin University, so I studied there for 3 weeks that summer. I fell in love with Japan and knew I wanted to live and work there.
After college, I taught English at two junior high schools in Miyagi, then went back home to the U.S. and worked at computer game companies for almost 16 years. It was fun, but I missed Japan very much, so I decided to come back in 2019. Now, I live in Kichijoji, and I teach English through Nova so that you all can have more opportunities to explore the world and make wonderful memories for yourself like I am now. Living and working in another country is just so much fun!
