【What is your Valentine memory?】🍫💕
For Valentines Day I have done many different things for the girlfriends or women I’ve dated, but I have this one year that is probably my favorite.
So back home in San Francisco, I grew up around a lot of women in my family. Mostly my aunts. They have all helped me in some shape or form in life and I am still very close with them.
One year, I decided I wanted to do something sweet for my Grandmother, mom, and 4 aunts (the ones that at least live in San Francisco). In our family, the women are the most important! I wanted to do something nice for them, so I figured I would get them all roses, chocolate, a stuffed animal bear and a $100 spa gift card.
For flowers on that day, especially roses, you have to call floral shops ahead of time, at least a few weeks! So I had to call a few that could fill an order of 6 dozen roses that would be ready that morning. Next, I need to find each of their favorite chocolates. For many of my aunts, its Hawaiian Host, sometimes its Almond Roca, and also OHC (Original Hawaiian Chocolate).
In California, those aren’t as easy to come by as you would think. From time to time we can find Hawaiian Host, but usually in the summers. When we would get it, it was usually from family that was coming to visit from back in the Islands or family coming back to The Bay from visiting there and they would bring extra. I was lucky, because I started to plan a lil early (December) and my favorite uncle was getting ready to head there for the holidays to spend it with the rest of our family there, so knowing that I had to put in an order with him if he can pick me up a few boxes of each. Luckily, he was able to get 3 of each which is more than enough.
So with the rose orders put in, the chocolates taken care of, now just leaves the stuffed bears!
The bears at first I figured I would just buy any generic stuffed bear with a heart on it, but I guess that would be too easy, especially because many places start selling them starting from January. A friend of mine reminded me of a place that opened up not to long ago at one of the local malls near me called, Build-A-Bear! Its a place where you can go and make a customized bear with a WIDE range of clothes and accessories! So that’s where I headed to go! I must of spent a good 4 hours there when I did go thinking of each of them and how best to make their bear that resembles each person.
Now its Valentines Day.
I packed the bears and chocolates in gift bags for everyone and loaded them up into the car and began to head to the flower shop to pick up the roses. Once all the flowers were picked up and I attached little cards to them, now its time to make my rounds and drop off everything to my family!
Each of my family members were so surprised to see me at the door holding flowers and a big gift bag for each of them! Even some of my uncles were jealous because they didn’t get them much, maybe just flowers. One uncle even joked with me and asked if he can put his name on the card too!
The presents were all met with much love and mahalo and many big hugs!
Remember not only your wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend. but also your loved family members!
