Hello everyone! Greg here, and I’m here to say that it’s a pleasure to be back in Morioka! I told you I wasn’t saying goodbye yet!
To those friendly faces from before my brief trip back to Hachinohe, it has been nice to see you again!
To those who haven’t met me yet, please come soon! I can’t wait to learn more about you!

Everybody is scared of something, for me it’s heights (alongside a lot of other things), so airplanes, tall buildings, cliffsides, mountain tops, they’re all at least a little terrifying.
I had thought that a trip to a mountain cave, which is the opposite of a high up place, would be the place where I’d be least likely to be scared. But I was very wrong.
Has anybody reading this been to a limestone cave like Ryusendo (龍泉洞)? 50 meters buried in the side of a mountain, you’d expect a narrow, cramped squeeze through rocks and over boulders. It is not.
It’s a vast expanse of waterways and caverns underground, where you could drop your phone and never find it again! I can’t swim, I can barely climb, so if I fell in, it’d be a steep drop down for Greg! Imagine how slowly I walked across the slippery walk-way, how strongly I held on to the rails at my side, and how gratefully I walked out into the pouring rain! I exaggerate, but I was scared.
That aside, the caves were wonderful! I’ve never seen such clear water or such beautiful hues of blue. The flowstone looked unreal, almost as if it were taken straight out of a videogame. I’d highly recommend it, especially in summer when you need respite from the Japanese sun.
