Autumn is the season for reading and enjoying books, so here are three books that I love reading and would strongly recommend you try for yourself!!
1. The Lord of the Rings (ロード・オブ・ザ・リングシリーズ)
Written between 1953 and 1955, This trilogy of books authored by Professor J.R.R Tolkien is the classic fantasy story of light against darkness, incredible creatures, powerful magic, and friendship and courage in the face of overwhelming odds. Tolkien’s world is lovingly crafted and brought to life by ancient stories, legends, andsongs of heroes and folklore throughout it’s exciting story. A mustread for anyone who enjoys Fantasy!
2. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (or The Modern Prometheus)(メアリーシェリーのフランケンシュタイン（現代のプロメテウス）
The classic horror novel which has been the inspiration fornumerous movie adaptations throughout the years, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is a bone chilling tale of one man’s ambition to have the power of life, only to realise the error of his ways with terrifying results. Frankenstein is a perfect Halloween story that also brings huge questions about life and morality. A very long book, but definitely worth your time!
3. Birdsong (バードソング）
Authored by British writer Sebastian Faulks, this powerful novel follows the lives of two members of the same family in different times. One story is that of a soldiers experience fighting in World War I at Amiens in France, while the other tells of his Granddaughters attempts to find out what happened to him and his experiences of fighting in the war. As November is the time for remembering those who lost their lives in wars throughout history, this novel is a wonderful look into how history is remembered and how the human faces and individuals who suffered through war should never be forgotten. If you get the chance to try these books I hope you find them as enjoyable as I did. Happy reading!
