Garden Salad

This is a simple and fresh salad made of raw ingredients. This is a very popular style of side dish in Australia and is often served at barbeques and in the summertime.

Salad dressing ingredients
– 1 tablespoon of whole seed mustard
– 3 tablespoons of olive oil
– 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
– a squeeze of lemon

Salad ingredients
– 1 cucumber
– 3 to 4 large leaves of iceberg lettuce
– 1 orange
– 1/2 a pack of cherry tomatoes (mini tomatoes)
– carrot
– 1 avacardo (optional)
– 1 pack of button mushrooms (optional)

– Cut the cherry tomatoes into quarters and cut the orange and avacardo into small cubes
– Cut the lettuce into medium width strips and slice all of the vegetables thinly.
– Mix the salad in a large bowl.
– Mix the salad dressing ingredients in a glass or and only poor the dressing on right before serving the salad.

Have you even eaten raw button mushrooms? They have a delicious and mild flavour which really soaks up the salad dressing. Have you tried putting orange in a salad? I think it’s really refreshing.

When you cut the orange, you might make a little bit of orange juice on your chopping board. You can mix this juice with the salad dressing.

In Australia, we don’t use the name ‘mini tomatoes’. These tomatoes are small and super sweet, so we call them ‘cherry tomatoes’

Iceberg lettuce is a the common variety of lettuce. It looks similar to a cabbage. It is big, round and wider at the bottom like an iceberg.

You can also use other varieties of lettuce but iceberg lettuce is nice and crispy.
